Moonshine Tips

Turbo Yeast for making moonshine alcohol:
Turbo X-Pure Alcotec Vodka Star

Ideal for pot stills (but works well with a reflux still too), with their lower capability of reducing impurities - or indeed anytime you want to produce the cleanest possible wash.

So why not always use the new Vodka Star turbo then? Well the extreme purity comes at a cost - fermentation will be slower than normal for most turbo's. A typical fermentation time is 5-6 days but occasionally you may see even a few days longer.

It will produce normal alcohol, i.e. around 14%.

Tolerates high temperatures

It has another interesting property - although that wasn't exactly what they developed it to do; It performs very well at extreme (high) temperatures. Compared to most other turbo's out there, the Vodka Star will actually produce a good moonshine wash even at ambient temperatures of 35C.

When to use it

When a very pure wash is required - i.e. mainly if you use a pot still which doesn't separate out impurities as well as a reflux still. They originally developed it for all pot still users out there but "Pot Still Turbo" is such a boring name, and it does have some interesting uses even for reflux still users or indeed even as a high alcohol kit (making moonshine without distillation).

It can also be well worth experimenting with this turbo + a reflux still and using less than normal activated carbon should turn out to be cheaper for the same quality.

As a high alcohol kit; This turbo is the best in the Alcotec range if you wish to use your wash with essences directly without any distilling. You may still want to experiment with using activated carbon though (check out the liquid carbon solution).

What our testers said

Below are a few of the comments we got from our prototype testers around the world:

I have just finished my first run of the pot still Turbo, wow this is so clean, smells nice, tastes nice (even as a wash) and has very very little sediment. I am very impressed.

"Mark, Australia"

Well you've got my undivided attention with this
yeast. I've never had a cleaner, smoother, more
agreeable smelling wash in my copper pot than this
one.

"Harry, Australia"
