Moonshine Tips

Turbo Yeast for making moonshine:
Make 23% Moonshine Alcohol!

Home moonshine making has taken another step forward. With the new Alcotec 23% turbo pure, it is now possible to break the magical 20% alcohol barrier by fermentation alone. This will take your reflux still to new heights!

The new Alcotec 23% turbo yeast is based around a completely new class of recipes containing activated carbon, present during fermentation. Together with new yeast strains and a different kind of trace minerals, we are now able to make more alcohol from a fermentation than ever before and when used with quality distillation equipment for making moonshine, like a good reflux still - it will produce more alcohol than ever before.

Forget what the home distillation handbook says about maximum alcohol. With Alcotec 23%, the worlds first true above-20%-alcohol turbo yeast, you can now push the alcohol yield above all previous limits, especially if you use a reflux still.

Instructions:
25 litres of 23% alcohol in 9 days

1. Mix hot and cold water to a liquid temperature of 40 °C in a sterilized fermenter (capable of holding minimum 27 litres). Adjust volume to exactly 18 litres.

2. Add 10.5 kgs of Brewing Sugar (Dextrose Monohydrate) and mix well until liquid is completely clear. Do not use any other sugars.

3. Add contents of all three sachets (yeast, nutrient and activated carbon) to the liquid.

NOTE: Shake the carbon sachet before opening to make sure there are no lumps, especially near the edges of the sachet.

4. After 3 hours - gently stir in the foam/froth (prevents foaming over later).

5. Leave to ferment at room temperature (18 °C - 24 °C) for 7 days (until no more activity - can take 1-2 extra days if cool temp).

NOTE: If ambient temperature is above 24 °C your fermentation will stick prematurely.
NOTE: Always consider the risk of leaks, frothing etc when choosing where to put fermenter.

6. Add a good fining agent (Alcotec Turbo Klar or similar) and leave to clear for 2 days (the wash does not have to be completely clear for distilling) or longer if you plan to use it without distilling.

NOTE: It is important to use turbo clear, otherwise unwanted substances absorbed during fermentation will be released again during boiling.

7. Siphon off and your wash is ready for distilling or other use.

Stacking:
Fermenting Larger volumes (over 25 litres)

Don't even think about it. This turbo is so extreme, it is optimized for 25 litres and it will overheat grossly if you try to ferment a larger volume

A much better option is using Alcotec 48. This turbo will handle stacking to some extent, but the recipe still takes a certain amount of tweaking (suggestion is to add max 6-7 kgs of sugar per 25 litres and don't ferment over 100 litres). You may still get some residual sugar but the overall result will be better.
