Turbo Yeasts for
home distillers first developed in the early 1990's in
Scandinavia. The idea was to ferment the base for home
distilling quickly and to high alcohol levels.
A parallel to super
yeasts are the High Alcohol Kits
used mainly in the UK to ferment up to just under 20%
alcohol. This base is then often
flavoured into liqueurs or low alcohol spirits like Gin,
Rum, Whisky, Vodka etc.
Actually, there is not
a big difference. The high alcohol kit is basically a
superyeast with some extra finings and flavourings. For
those of you who want to experiment yourselves with
essences, a Turbo Yeast is a much cheaper alternative even
if you do not distill your spirit. You may have problems
with the finings though, some yeast strains used in
superyeasts are a nightmare to clear properly and that is
why high alcohol kits often have 3-stage wine finings plus
activated carbon to deal with the clearing.
And of course...for
those of you who actually do distil, well Alcotec will
provide you with the base alcohol faster and with a higher
alcohol level than you have ever experienced before.
