Veneto is Italy's leader in the production of classified wine. Bardolino, Soave and Valpolicella account for hundreds of millions of bottles each year, yet unclassified wines made from both local and foreign varietals are a significant force in this northeastern region. White wines from the region includes the famous Bianco di Custoza and Soave. Valpolicella and Bardolino are two well known red wines from the region. |

The most famous red is the Amarone, among the most exalted of all Italian red wines. Its skillful vinification illustrates Veronese wine making at its best. This majestic red with its astounding capacity for aging stands in a league of its own. For wine making purposes Verona divides into three distinct areas. Soave is grown in the plains and low-lying hills east of the city of Verona. Valpolicella and Amarone come from hillier vineyards to its north and Bardolino from the steeper slopes to the west, on the shores of Lake Garda. In summer this area is a magnet for tourists from Italy and beyond, who are drawn to its legendary lakeside beauty, picture-perfect vineyards and romantic hillside villas. |
